Sonbroers director Morne Barnard believes that solar energy has now become a commodity. In other words, it is essential and will become normal.
This has resulted in about 6 000 solar energy operators emerging in South Africa – a crowded market
Morne has the following advice for people considering solar energy.
Professionalism – A quality vendor will not sell you a product but will first ask questions about your current consumption, lifestyle and practical needs, business requirements, site location, among others. Only then will they recommend a solution.
References – Ask for references and be sure to contact them. Also ask for pics of projects completed and ask the vendor for more information about the projects.
Financing – Most banks will finance the project but in addition to this, the vendor should be able to refer you to credible financiers who specialise in this space. Ask for the name of the financier and do your homework before committing yourself.
“In a very crowded market, if the vendor tells you to trust them or talks about their integrity, run a mile! Trust and integrity is earned, not told – contacting their customers will soon give you the answers and comfort that you need”.
